   Summer Nights Campaign

The Summer Nights campaign will be tackling the issues caused by alcohol misuse in Darlington this summer.

Alan Milburn and Summer NightsAlan is backing the campaign by Darlington Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) which will see agencies working together to address alcohol-related issues. Darlington Council’s wardens, youth services, trading standards and Street Scene teams will be working with the police and health services to tackle alcohol-related problems during the summer months.

The campaign will see a crackdown by the police and community wardens with high visibility patrols and enforcement activity in known hotspots and fast-track response to reported incidents. They will be speaking to any underage drinkers and confiscating alcohol where necessary. There will also be a rigorous approach to identified problem premises who sell alcohol irresponsibly to drunk or young people.

Alan said: “We want people of all ages who misuse alcohol to know that bad behaviour will not be tolerated anywhere - in the town centre, at home or in the parks and streets.
“We want people to go out and enjoy themselves during the holidays, but their enjoyment shouldn’t make other people’s lives a misery.”

By promoting other activities available to young people through the summer months, the Partnership hopes to divert them away from using alcohol. Darlington Council’s Youth Service has just launched its Click website www.clicktodo.co.uk a one-stop-shop for activities and events in the Borough.
