Hello and thank you for logging onto my parliamentary website.

It has been a privilege to represent Darlington as your Labour MP for the past decade. When you elected me, I promised to work hard on your priorities – creating jobs in the town, improving our schools and the NHS and tackling crime.

Darlington is now a better place to work and live. There are more people at work in Darlington than ever before. Since 1997, the number of people claiming unemployment in the town has dropped by more than a third. Low inflation and interest rates are helping working families.

We are cutting crime in Darlington by investing record amounts in crime reduction. Over the past 12 months, an extra 19 police officers have been taken on in the Durham force area.

There are free nursery places for three-year-olds, secondary education is being transformed with improved exam results and we can look forward to the new Haughton education village and major investment in the technology college.

Darlington has an exciting future. ALAN
